How to Sell Your Business
August 2025
The recruitment sector powers over £40bn of the UK economy – yet rarely gets the credit it deserves.
It connects people to careers, creates opportunities, and enables businesses to thrive. I’m proud to have spent 30 years in recruitment - 22 of them building a business - and to have played a part in its impact.
I recently sat down with Matt Tyson for a deep-dive conversation on his podcast – and the episode is live today! We covered everything:
✅ The highs and lows of scaling Sellick Partnership from scratch to £100m+ turnover
✅ Why culture and people were non-negotiables in our decision to sell
✅ The emotional reality of stepping away from something that’s been part of your life for over two decades
It was a great opportunity to share honest reflections and some lessons for anyone thinking about growth, succession, or an eventual sale:
📌 Know your numbers inside out
📌 Invest in your people – they’re your biggest differentiator
📌 And plan for life after the deal, because that transition is just as big as the transaction
As for what’s next? For me, it’s about variety – mentoring ambitious leaders, supporting innovative startups, and giving back to an industry that shaped my career. After an incredible journey, I’m excited for what lies ahead.
None of this would have been possible without the incredible people who shared the journey with me – Hannah Cottam, Ray Wareing, and the entire Sellick team. Your commitment, loyalty, and passion made everything we achieved possible.
🎧 The episode is out now – full of practical insights and honest advice for any business owner on the same path.
