One of my favourite days of the year today.

The APSCo Awards for Excellence awards ceremony is always a brilliant occasion - a chance to celebrate some of the very best companies and people in recruitment in the UK.

The standards needed to win this year are higher than ever - and as a judge for the past few years it is great to see so many excellent entries, even if our deliberations are harder than ever.

It was great to see Ged Mason, OBE, HonDBA and the Morsons team, including Terry Naden and Shaun Wheeler, win Recruitment Company of the Year in the over £250m category.

Ann Swain and her crew at APSco made sure the ceremony hit all the right notes - the atmosphere and tone was just right - though Manchester's successes might have influenced me!

Congratulations and thanks to all the winners of course but also to every entrant - it's a tough market at the moment but the depth of talent in our industry and the ideas and innovation is brilliant.
